Terence Watts, psychotherapist and fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, describes on the Patient website how anxiety in social situations results from negative thoughts, fear and anxiety of what people may think of you, and a belief that you may be subject to humiliation of some sort. It is an emotional response problem that can be resolved by good psychological therapy.
