It provides clear advice on all the key steps: from considering headship, to the application process, the lead-in period before taking up post and then on how to -˜inhabit' the role. Jill bases her advice on her own considerable experience and the research she undertook for her doctoral study. She does not lay out a blueprint for success, rather she considers different approaches and offers sage advice about how different challenges can be faced in a variety of ways. I found the book invaluable - a must-read for all those preparing to take up their first headship. I will be keeping my copy on my desk!
