Georgina Jonas writes for Headteacher Update
26 January 2017
Georgina Jonas, the pen name for the collective talent that wrote our recently published The College Collection series, has written a piece on the Headteacher Update website sharing their ideas and strategies for engaging reluctant readers.

Click here to read the article and here to take a closer look at the series.

The College Collection centres around five main characters, Luca, Anda, Jim Jam, Woody and Nolan. They are from different backgrounds and first meet at Parkfield College, where they are studying for a BTEC in Media Studies. They quickly become friends. The College Collection follows them through their time at Parkfield College and the adventures and adversities they experience there.

The books reinforce high frequency words and the core phonic skills needed to access basic reading levels. Each set provides stories which bridge the gap between base level schemes and longer, more challenging texts. They are suitable for readers who still need a formatted reading scheme and are not yet ready to go onto free readers, but who still want interesting, engaging, real-life books. They are flexible, so no matter what other schemes you may be using, these books stand alone, enhancing and extending any reading experience.

The books are available to buy as a complete set as well as individually. Follow the links to take a closer link at the titles.

Bob Cox's series opens doors to quality writing at St. Francis Catholic School
26 January 2017
Pupils at St. Francis Catholic School in Pembrokeshire have been busy with their literacy work and their prose is of such a high standard that they are showcasing their written pieces on their own website, which you can see for yourself here.

The pupils in the Ramsey Class (Dosbarth Ramsey) have been studying Great City by Harold Monro from Bob Cox's Opening Doors to Famous Poetry and Prose. The class imagined Milford at sunset and explored use of senses in poetry.

More pupils™ work has also been added to the growing collection of written work produced by school children who are following the passages and exercises related to the texts included in Bob Cox˜s Opening Doors books for ages 6-9 and 10-13.

The books put the focus on pupils producing quality writing “ developing their literacy skills and a love of reading in the process “ and all the evidence gathered on the featured pages seem to indicate that Bob™s strategies and stimulus texts are working!

The collection features written work produced by children, aged between 6 and 13, from various schools who are following the passages and exercises related to the texts included in these books on a dedicated web page on our site where you can view and/or download the works in pdf form and see which unit of the book they came from.

Click here to visit the 1013 page and here to visit the 69 page.
